Not a day goes by where I don’t find myself searching for something on the internet. For me, it tends to be those enigmatic crossword puzzle clues that I have convinced myself no “normal” human can get without using the internet. Or the name of that actor I am watching who I swear I have seen in some movie just the other day. No matter what the topic may be, now I, along with all of you, can give back to Creatively Caring one search at a time.
GoodSearch, a Yahoo-powered search engine, donates nearly one penny per search to the charity of your choice. All you have to do is go to goodsearch.com, choose Creatively Caring as your cause, and start searching. It is 100% free and 100% legitimate. By creating a profile on the website, you can track the amount of money you earn for Creatively Caring and share why you support the cause on your GoodProfile page. You can also track the total earnings for Creatively Caring on its profile page.
Once you have created a simple profile, GoodSearch gives you the option of making GoodSearch.com your homepage as well as supplying a download for the GoodToolBar. That ensures every purchase and web search you make will count as a donation for Creatively Caring. It also means you don’t need to type in the website every time you want to search for something. It will just be there when you log on.
Several stores and online marketplaces have teamed up with GoodSearch so every time you make a purchase online, a percent of the sale will go to Creatively Caring. There is a “Shop” button located on the GoodSearch toolbar. Click it, find the store you are searching for, and let the buying begin. If you are lucky, there will also be some sort of coupon or free shipping offer available for that store. Right now, Macy’s has 135 coupons available to buyers. Looks like I will be buying that hot new pair of jeans today.
I always worry that signing up for one more thing will only lead to further emails and solicitations. However, I have yet to receive anything from GoodSearch, nor has the amount of spam in my inbox seen a dramatic increase. GoodSearch really is about giving back and doing good. It is now going into it’s seventh year and continues to earn charities like the ASPCA, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital thousands of dollars. It warms my heart to be able to contribute to Creatively Caring by doing what I love – writing. Writing has been a passion of mine since grade school. After graduating from college with a degree in journalism, I decided to continue writing on a more personal level rather than professional. I saw the importance of giving back to my community around that time and began volunteering for the Skokie Public Library. Volunteering gives me a sense of achievement and I can only hope I give as much back to my community and fellows as I take away from all my service positions. To be able to do what I love and give back at the same time is a blessing in my life and fills me with a gratitude that even I have a hard time expressing in words.
